<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight assembly and a display device having the same. <P>SOLUTION: The backlight assembly comprises a light guide unit, a light source supplying light to an incident face of the light guide unit, a first substrate on which a reflection area is formed, lower electrodes arranged on the reflection area, a switching element applying turn-on signal or turn-off signal on the lower electrode, and a reflection module including an upper electrode facing the lower electrode. The electrode is constructed so as to come into close contact with and separate from the light guide unit by the selective application of turn-on signal or turn-off signal on the lower electrode.
