PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for releasing a flask of sand mold with the flask already poured with molten metal, wherein the decrease of dropping distance of the flask-released mold is attained and also, the service lives of various kinds of actuators, are prolonged. SOLUTION: This apparatus is provided with; a transporting means for transporting the sand mold with the flask already poured with the molten metal into a carry-in station so that the mold comes to just below a punch-head; a running carriage reciprocatively shifting between the carry-in station and a carry-out station; a mold flask ascending/descending means, attached to this running carriage and for ascending/descending the carry-in sand mold with the flask already poured with the molten metal; a punch-head ascending/descending means, attached to the running carriage and for ascending/descending the punch-head; and a mold receiving means, attached to the carry-in station and for receiving the sand mold already poured with the molten metal taken out from the sand mold with the flask already poured with the molten metal. A driving means for running carriage, the mold flask ascending/descending means and the punch-head ascending/descending means, are arranged at the upper part from the sand mold with the flask already poured with the molten metal.
