A mobile communication terminal and an illegal usage preventing method during loss of the terminal are provided to take active measures such as setup of a cellular phone power-off function, installation of a battery separation-preventing device, and a change of a cellular phone mode during loss of the cellular phone. A controller(14) generates a control signal for executing a loss mode, and changes communication setup. A wireless communication unit(16) transmits a theft report signal in accordance with the control signal. A power supply module(12) controls mechanical separation/locking functions of a battery in accordance with the control signal. A screen display(18) displays a contact number and a loss message in accordance with the control signal.
