PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive optical waveguide which can be mounted without using a curved fiber array and can be manufactured in a very simple manner and to provide a method for manufacturing the optical waveguide. SOLUTION: The optical waveguide is characterized in that varied refractive index difference is formed depending on the location by using a polysilane material containing a photosensitizer. The method of manufacturing the optical waveguide is characterized in that the polysilane material 200 containing the photosensitizer is applied on a substrate 80 having ultraviolet transmissivity, a mask 230 provided with a predetermined pattern on the front surface of the coating film or both the front and the bottom surfaces of the coating film is arranged, and an ultraviolet laser beam 250 is radiated to generate the varied refractive index difference depending on the location.
