An image forming apparatus having an intermediate transfer drum is provided to reduce the weight and cost of the image forming apparatus by decreasing the number of printer heads and form an image with high definition within a very short period time. An image forming apparatus includes an intermediate transfer drum(200), at least one printer head(210a,210b,210c,210d), a driver(220), and a position controller(230). The printer head is located on the outer face of the intermediate transfer drum. The driver is placed at one side of the intermediate transfer drum to rotate the intermediate transfer drum in a sub-scanning direction. The position controller is located at the other side of the intermediate transfer drum to control the position of the intermediate transfer drum in a main scanning direction. The driver includes a driving gear(221) located at one end of the axis of the intermediate transfer drum, and a driving motor(222) for rotating the driving gear.
