摘要 <p>Provided are a direct oxidation type fuel cell, which is excellent in a utilization efficiency of fuel and a power generating property and is useful as an electric power source for portable electronic equipment such as mobile phones, and a manufacturing method thereof. The direct oxidation type fuel cell includes a membrane-electrode assembly(1) having a cathode(8), an anode(5), and a solid polymer electrolytic membrane(2) placed between the cathode(8) and the anode(5). The cathode(8) comprises a cathode catalytic layer(6) and a cathode diffusion layer(7), wherein the cathode catalytic layer(6) is disposed at the side of the solid polymer electrolytic membrane(2). The anode(5) comprises an anode catalytic layer(3) and an anode diffusion layer(4), wherein the anode catalytic layer(3) is disposed at the side of the solid polymer electrolytic membrane(2). Cracks(10) are present in the cathode catalytic layer(6) and the anode catalytic layer(3). A cathode-protecting layer(12) is formed between the cathode catalytic layer(6) and the solid polymer electrolytic membrane(2) so as to cover cracks(10) of the cathode catalytic layer(6). An anode-protecting layer(11) is formed between the anode catalytic layer(3) and the solid polymer electrolytic membrane(2) so as to cover cracks(10) of the anode catalytic layer(3). The cathode-protecting layer(12) and the anode-protecting layer(11) comprise polymeric electrolyte and water-repellent fine particles.</p>
