A method for preparing a polyketone is provided to enhance the activity of a catalyst and the intrinsic viscosity of a polyketone and to lower the manufacturing cost of a polyketone. A polyketone is prepared by copolymerizing carbon monoxide and an ethylenically unsaturated compound in a liquid medium in the presence of a catalyst, wherein the catalyst is an organometallic complex which comprises a transition metal compound of group 9, 10 or 11 and a ligand of a metallocene structure containing an element of group 15; the ratio of carbon monoxide and the ethylenically unsaturated compound is 1:1 by mol; and the liquid medium is a mixture solvent which comprises 20-60 wt% of acetic acid and 40-80 wt% of water. Preferably the transition metal compound is palladium chloride; and the ligand is 1,3-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene.
