WIRELESS BROADBAND MOBILE STATION AND METHOD FOR MEASURING PREAMBLE AND DETERMINING EFFECTIVE SLEEP PERIOD

A WiBro(Wireless Broadband) MS(Mobile Station) for determining an effective sleep period by measuring a preamble and a method therefor are provided to control the sleep period by actively using the amplitude of a preamble signal transmitted from a BS(Base Station), thereby supporting a stable data service. A WiBro MS operates in sleep mode for N1(N1 is a natural number) frames(S210), and operates in listening mode for L(L is a natural number) frames(S220). The MS measures the amplitude of a preamble signal in the listening mode to compare the preamble signal with a threshold value(S230). The MS controls the sleep mode operation for the N1 frames or the sleep mode operation for double times of the N1 frames according to the compared results(S240,S250). The MS normally operates according to a certain indication signal received from a BS(S260).
