A disk to be used physically as a rewritable disk is adequately used as a write-once type. If the rewritable disk is used for rewritable application as it is, the data write position for a predetermined data unit (for example, an ECC block) is set at a first position relative to a reference position to perform recording/reproduction. Meanwhile, if the rewritable disk is used for write-once application, the data write position for a predetermined data unit is set at a second position different from the first position to perform recording/reproduction. Since the data write positions are different, the data recorded on the recording disk cannot be re-written even if the rewritable recording disk to be used for write-once application is loaded in a recording/reproducing device designed not to be used for write-once application.
