An apparatus for checking an absorption of an SMD(Surface Mounting Device) is provided to selectively obtain a lower side image or a lateral side image of the SMD by moving a camera in left and right directions and controlling a focus. In an apparatus for checking an absorption of an SMD(20), a camera(110) photographs a lower side image and a lateral side image of the SMD(20) absorbed by an absorption nozzle(10). A front-light illuminator(120) is positioned at both sides of the camera(110) and illuminates the lower side of the SMD(20). A reflecting mirror(130) reflects the lateral side image of the SMD(20) to the camera(110). A back-light illuminator(140) illuminates the lateral side of the SMD(20). And, an image processing unit(150) processes the lower side and lateral side images photographed by the camera(110) with a comparing process.
