An LCD is provided to make it possible to firmly attach an organic EL(Electro-Luminescent) element onto the LCD without forming short-circuit between an anode layer and a cathode layer of the organic EL element. An LCD comprises a lower substrate, an upper substrate, and a liquid crystal layer between the lower substrate and the upper substrate. Upper and lower polarization films(21T,21B) are formed on outer surfaces of the upper and lower substrates. A backlight unit supplies light to the upper and lower substrates. A buffer layer(50) is formed on a surface of the lower polarization film. The backlight unit adopts an organic EL backlight element(30) consisting of an anode layer(31), an organic thin layer(32), and a cathode layer(33). The anode layer of the organic EL backlight element is contacted with the buffer layer, and integrated into the buffer layer and the lower polarization film in a single body. |
