<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coding method capable of enhancing a compression rate while suppressing deterioration in the quality. <P>SOLUTION: The coding method is characterized in to include: a conversion processing for applying orthogonal transform to a received digital signal; a quantization processing for quantizing an orthogonal transform coefficient obtained from the conversion processing; a map table generating processing for generating a map table for variable length coding with one-to-one correspondence to the quantization coefficient on the basis of the distribution of the quantization coefficient obtained by the quantization processing; and a coding processing for applying variable length coding to the quantization coefficient on the basis of the map table. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
