PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user to view a broadcast program of each broadcast kind that the user desires with high quality by switching the channel to another channel over which a broadcast program of the same kind is broadcast, when the reception state of the channel which is currently received becomes worse. SOLUTION: A receiver 10 selectively receives broadcast waves, including digital broadcast signals transmitted over mutually different channels. Each of the digital broadcast signal includes broadcast program kind information, indicating the kind of a broadcast program. The receiver 10 receives a broadcast wave of a channel different from a broadcast wave being received at present as a monitor broadcast wave, monitors broadcast program kind information in the monitor broadcast wave to detect whether user-input broadcast program kind information matches the broadcast program kind information, and outputs a kind matching signal and also detects the reception quantity of the broadcast wave from the monitor broadcast wave, when they match each other. When the reception quality is determined as being proper, reception control is carried out to receive the monitor broadcast wave as a received broadcast wave, once the kind-matching signal is received and then output a broadcast program related to the received broadcast wave.
