The proposed method for diagnosing gastroesophageal reflux disease consists in determining the optical density, at an optical radiation wavelength of 540 nm, of the sample of the patient's saliva that is taken before meal, within 30 minutes after cleaning teeth and thrice rinsing the moth with distilled water, determining the optical density of the reference sample, determining the content of magnesium in the saliva, and diagnosing the disease if the content of magnesium is less than 0.53 mmol/l.
