A heating system including two heat sources (7 and 1, figure 1), one of which heats water which is held in a heated water storage reservoir (3 figure 1) and a temperature responsive valve 6 having one inlet 22 and two outlets 20, 21 such that water is supplied from the reservoir, unless the temperature of the water in the valve falls below a predetermined temperature, when the water is supplied via the second heat source, which is a boiler 7 and may be a combi-boiler. The first heat source may be solar powered and may employ a heat exchanger (13 figure 1). The valve 6 may include a body 23 with a bore 27 and a central chamber 24, outlets 20, 21 at opposite ends of the bore and the inlet 22 communicating with the chamber, a valve member 31 movable between blocking each of the two outlets and resiliently biased towards blocking the outlet 20 and including a part 32 which expands with heat to move the valve member to a position blocking outlet 21. Part 32 may contain material which undergoes a transition when heated, such as wax which melts. |
