An automatic channel setting method of a digital broadcasting receiver is provided to maintain the latest watchable channel information all the time. When the power is turned on(S200), a digital broadcasting receiver discriminates whether a user watches a single screen or a simultaneous screen(S202). If the user watches a single screen, the digital broadcasting receiver performs an automatic channel search through a background tuner(S204). Thereafter, when a simultaneous screen watching command is inputted from the user(S206), the digital broadcasting receiver stops the channel search and stores the automatic channel search result(S208). Thereafter, the digital broadcasting receiver tunes the channel selected by the user, demodulates and displays a sub-screen video signal(S210).
