PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic transmission for a vehicle capable of easily performing detection of operation of an operation lever and easily performing control without impairing operability. SOLUTION: Since operation of an operation lever 1 is detected by difference of a rotation angle, the detection is easy and a detection mechanism is simple. Since an output lever 9 is rotated by a motor 19 in a direction for eliminating the difference of the detected rotation angle, operability by the operation lever 1 is further enhanced. Since a rotation angle difference generation part B is provided between a rotation shaft 3 and the output lever 9, predetermined rotation angle difference required for control can be generated. Since the rotation shaft 3 and the output lever 9 have the rotation angle corresponding to the rotation angle difference generation part B, but are physically engaged, even if a motor 19 and a control amplifier 22 are failed by any chance, the output lever 9 is rotated by rotation operation of the operation lever 1 and switching of a range by manual operation is enabled.
