PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To excellently fix a toner image on recording material whose image forming surface has large ruggedness. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has: an image forming means for forming the toner image on the recording material; a fixing member for fixing the toner image formed on the recording material; and a pressure member forming a fixing nip by press-contacting with the fixing member. The deformation amount of the pressure member at the fixing nip is larger than that of the fixing member. When forming the image on the recording material whose image forming surface has the large ruggedness, a mode for performing the pre-heating processing of the image forming surface by bringing the recording material into contact with the pressure member at the fixing nip before forming the image can be selected.
