IMAGE CONVERSION APPARATUS TO COMPENSATE MOTION AND METHOD THEREOF

An image conversion device for performing motion compensation and a motion compensation method are provided to select only a field for performing the motion compensation and perform the motion compensation to reduce a motion judder phenomenon. The first to the third buffer units(100,110,120) successively store video fields successively inputted. A motion estimation unit(130) estimates a motion vector between the first field stored in the first buffer unit(100) and the third field stored in the third buffer unit(120). A motion compensation unit(140) compensates motion between the first field and the third field by using the motion vector outputted from the motion estimation unit(130), and outputs an interpolated field. An output unit(160) outputs at least one of the interpolated field outputted from the motion compensation unit(140) and the second field stored in the second buffer unit(110). A field selecting unit(180) selects the field outputted from the output unit(160) according to film modes of the video fields successively inputted.
