Provided is a liquid crystal aligning film for a liquid crystal display device, which has improved mechanical strength, adhesion to a glass substrate, rubbing resistance and shelf stability. The liquid crystal aligning film is obtained by the method comprising the steps of: forming a liquid crystal aligning varnish by adding an alkenyl-substituted nadimide compound to a varnish containing polyamic acid, soluble polyimide, polyamide, polyamideimide or a mixture thereof; applying the resultant varnish onto a substrate, followed by firing; and carrying out surface treatment via mechanical or physical contact.
