PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately determine whether or not knocking has occurred, by sharply distinguishing the vibration of the knocking and the vibration of noise. SOLUTION: An engine ECU implements a program comprising: a step S102 for calculating an integration value integrating an output voltage value (value indicating the magnitude of vibration) of a knock sensor by 5 degrees in crank angle; a step S110 for calculating knock strength N based on an inclusive sum from a top dead center to 90 degrees; and steps S112, S114 and S118 for determining whether or not the knocking has occurred based on the knock strength N.
