A final-stage packing machine has a powered (3) pushrod (2) that is applied to the product (1) regulated by a control system (8) linked to a position detector (7). In operation the sensor first determines the product position, followed by advance of the pushrod against the product (1). The pushrod is advanced at a speed in accordance with its dimensions and the required feed rate.
