PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide some kinds of substituted amines, alkylenediamines, polyamines and their derivatives suitable for the use to prevent, suppress or modify the formation of a crystalline gas hydrate. SOLUTION: The inhibitor is composed of an amine, an alkylenediamine or a polyamine and their derivative and comprises a compound of formula (1) (where in the substituents R<SB>1</SB>to R<SB>3</SB>may be hydrocarbyl group or, in the case of existing certain number of groups, a polyhydroxyalkyl or (CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>p</SB>-COO-; and p is 1 or 2).
