PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a latent catalyst which develops excellent catalytic action in molding and gives a resin composition with good curability, flowability, and storage stability. SOLUTION: The preparation method of the latent catalyst comprises reacting a trialkoxysilane with an onium salt molecule represented by formula (1) (wherein A<SP>1</SP>is a nitrogen or phosphorus atom; R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>4</SP>are each an optionally substituted aromatic, heterocyclic, or aliphatic group; X<SP>1</SP>is an organic group; Y<SP>1</SP>is a group formed by excluding a proton from a proton-donating substituent; Y<SP>2</SP>is a proton-donating group or an oxygen atom; and Y<SP>1</SP>and Y<SP>2</SP>can form a chelate structure by bonding to a silicon atom).
