PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reproducing device and a control method having enhanced user-friendliness. SOLUTION: Data including a program section and a specific section is received, then the specific section included in the above data and overlapped sections in which the contents are repeated before and after the specific section, are detected. When the reproducing operation comes to the specific section or overlapped sections during the data reproduction, a display showing the specific section or the overlapped sections is output on a display screen. When an instruction of a skip reproduction or fast forwarding reproduction is received from the user, the control is carried out so that the specific section or the overlapped sections are reproduced by skipping or fast forwarding.
