PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a database system which can quickly perform access on a network without using a medium different from the medium primarily stored and also back up data safely and stably without through man power. SOLUTION: The system comprises multiple storage units 1 for storing image data, a control unit 2 for managing it, and a database server 3 to which attribute information including key information associated with image data is stored. The control unit is equipped with an operation state inspection means which executes the operation state inspection for inrestigating the data of residual capacity and absence or presence of abnormalities to a storage unit at a predetermined timing and stores its result on an operation state table, and a redundant storing means for selecting the number of redundancy of data storage locations for data storage request from the storage unit identified based on the above operation state table and normally operated.
