METHOD FOR DETERMINING VALVE DEGRADATION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for determining valve degradation without using a valve lift and a sensor, and a method for determining the valve degradation of a rested cylinder.

SOLUTION: The method is provided with a process for stopping fuel supply to a cylinder after a request to rest the cylinder, a process for commanding to close an exhaust valve and an intake valve of the cylinder after the stop of fuel supply, a process for burning an air fuel mixture in the cylinder after the command to close the exhaust valve and the intake valve, a process opening and closing at least the intake valve of the cylinder after the predetermined number of cycles following the command to close the intake valve and a process for sampling exhaust gas for determining that at least one of the exhaust valves opens at least partially when commanding to put the exhaust valve at a closed position.
