A host device and a data managing method thereof are provided to manage data by using a user interface displaying an index information display area for the data and a work area for performing actual work to one window. A storing part(110) stores the data. A document management program(120) generates index information by sorting the data stored in the storing part according to a specific rule, and generates the user interface equipped with the index information display area for displaying the generated index data and the work area for performing the work for the data. A display device interface(150) transfers the generated user interface to a display device(200). The document managing program manages the data according to the work selected by a user through the user interface. The user interface includes a detail list display area displaying a detail list for the index information and a data display area displaying the data corresponding to the selected detail list.
