Cleaning utensil for the damp wiping of surfaces with cleaning water, including a plastic element which upon contact with the cleaning water indicates the relative temperature of the cleaning water by a reversible change in color. The plastic element includes a thermochromic or thermosensitive color additive for indicating to a user of the cleaning utensil, without the need for contact of the user with the water, whether the temperature of the water is above or below a selected temperature.
