An apparatus for detecting an optical signal is provided to allow a user to easily and quickly recognize a failure of an optical line and a position of the failure without having to use separate optical equipment. An optical signal, inputted through a left front end portion(A) of the first optical cable(311) from a left external optical cable(10'), is detected by the second optical signal detection sensor(332) and visually displayed through the second output unit(342). An optical signal, inputted through a right front end portion(B) of the first optical cable(312) from a right external optical cable(10"), is detected by the first optical signal detection sensor(331) and visually displayed through the first output unit(341).
