<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst which has excellent catalyst activity and durability by an inverse micelle method. <P>SOLUTION: The catalyst is formed by making the surface of a conductive carrier carry high dispersion compound noble metal particles having a composition of formula [Pt]<SB>a</SB>[Ir]<SB>b</SB>, wherein (a) is 0.7-0.99 atomic ratio of Pt, and (b) is 0.01-0.3 atomic ratio of Ir, and the sum of (a) and (b) is 1, and the average particle size is 3-8 nm. The compound noble metal particles are formed by adding reducing agents of water-soluble noble metal compounds into an inverse micelle solution formed by mixing an aqueous solution containing a water-soluble noble metal compound of platinum (Pt), and a water-soluble noble metal compound of iridium (Ir). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
