IMAGING APPARATUS AND IMAGING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a good image of high contrast regardless of brightness difference, even with an imaging element for which a linear conversion mode and logarithmic conversion mode are switched based on incident light quantity.

SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus 1 comprises an imaging element 2 comprising a plurality of pixels G11-Gmnfor which linear conversion operation for linear-converting incident light into electric signal and logarithmic conversion operation for converting logarithmically are switched based on the quantity of incident light, and a control unit 46 for controlling the imaging element 2. The control unit 46 divides an imaging region 9 into a high brightness region 9b and low brightness region 9a based on the brightness information of the imaging region 9. It sets a point of inflection Q which is the border between linear conversion mode and logarithmic conversion mode depending on the pixels G11-Gmncorresponding to the high brightness region 9b and low brightness region 9a.
