In a process to manufacture quilted e.g. bedspreads, the upper layer (4) of material is dispensed from a roll onto a bench top (1). The bench incorporates numerous air cushion jets. A lower web of material is simultaneously fed to the bench lower face. The bench upper face accepts a flexible panel core insert whose movement is facilitated by the air jets.
