<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color filter which retains high transmittance and excellent color reproducibility, further which has no uneven color, and which exhibits high display quality. <P>SOLUTION: The coloring composition for the color filter contains at least a sub-phthalocyanine pigment represented by a general formula (1) as a coloring material, wherein average particle diameter of the sub-phthalocyanine pigment is 20-50 nm.
