A method for securing a terrain (40) is described, comprising the steps of: in a first step, detecting a moving object (O), and issuing a report signal (SF) containing information about the direction and distance of the moving object detected; in a second step, locally verifying the alarm of the moving object detected by means of a camera and automatic image recognition; in a third step, transferring camera images (SB) to an external verification system (5). The moving object is detected by means of light detection beams indicating the distance of the object (O) relative to a measuring apparatus (31, 34). The camera is directed and focussed to the location where the moving object has been detected.
