Production of crude iron in a blast furnace with production of reducing gas from commercial gas containing 20% high quality methane or other hydrocarbon as well as H2 and CO, where the hydrocarbon is partially oxidized by addition of oxygen to increase the H2 and CO content and lower the temperature.
