The screen for attaching to a machine, especially a bending press (10) or folding press, with the screen fastened to an upper cheek (12), to an upper tool (14), to a lower cheek (16), or to a lower tool (18), has at least one slot extending from the edge of the screen and which is constructed in such a way that through it at least a part of the tool point (14a) of the respective tool is visible when looking in the direction of the screen side facing away from the respective tool. An independent claim is included for a device for checking the position of a tool in a machine, especially a bending press or folding press, incorporating the aforesaid screen which may be integrated in an opto-electronic sensor.
