A method for displaying impossibility of viewing of a digital TV is provided to easily recognize a problem and easily solve the problem by a user. When a digital signal is inputted to a digital TV(100), a codec version of the digital stream is discriminated by linking a control member(101) with an EEPROM(Electrically Erasable and Programmable Read Only Memory)(102). If the codec version of the digital TV is high, the encoded digital stream is decoded and then the digital stream is outputted. If the codec version of the digital TV is low, the digital broadcasting impossibility message and the latest version update message are outputted on the OSD screen.
