<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To always maintain a surface contact state between a vibration member and a contact member in a vibration type linear actuator. <P>SOLUTION: An optical apparatus has a lens 2 (12) and the vibration type linear actuator including the vibration member 19 whose vibration is excited by electromechanical conversion and the contact member 18 to be pressed in contact with the vibration member 19 and capable of driving the lens in an optical axis direction. The vibration member 19 is held so as to rotate around a first axis 28e approximately parallel with the press-contact surface and move in the direction of a second axis 19e approximately orthogonal to the contact surface.
