PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ABWR reactor core with a high conversion ratio capable of being converted into a breeder reactor requiring low reprocessing costs without need of any structural change other than change of nuclear fuel assemblies and control rods. SOLUTION: Dense compensated nuclear fuel assemblies 130 each having a weight and a heat removal area in the allowance range of a nuclear fuel assembly loaded in a currently operated ABWR are installed with a nuclear fuel assembly pitch of 15.4 cm, and a row of Zircaloy-made hollow tubes 200 and a row of extension Zircaloy hollow tubes 300 extended above a control rod are disposed in a leak water passage.
