<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cause no energy loss or little energy loss as well as to achieve a high mixture ratio. <P>SOLUTION: The piston internal combustion engine comprises: an exhaust gas collection part 7 provided on the downstream side of a cylinder 1; a supply air accumulation part 10 provided on the upstream side thereof, a turbocharger 13 and its turbine 14 to which exhaust gas can be supplied; a turbocharger compressor 12 for supplying supply air to the accumulation part having a cooler 16 on the upstream side; and an exhaust gas recycling device for mixing exhaust gas into the supply air on the compression side of the compressor. The mixture of the exhaust gas is carried out on the upstream side of the cooler and at least part of the mixture is carried out in a duct portion of a supply air duct 11 ranging from a delivered air flow casing 22 of the compressor to the cooler. The duct portion 11b of the duct is connected to a recycle duct 18 which supplies exhaust gas, and encircled by an annular preliminary storage chamber 29.
