PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device with a VA system which is superior in contrast, operational speed, etc., as before and also superior in optical angle characteristic as well. SOLUTION: Disclosed is the VA type liquid crystal display device in which liquid crystal 14 is held in between two first and second substrates 16 and 17, and the liquid crystal has negative dielectric constant anisotropy. The liquid crystal device is provided with a first domain regulating means 20A installed in the first substrate and second domain regulating means 20B and 21 installed in the second substrate. The first and second domain regulating means have rectilinear components in a second direction about 90°different from rectilinear components in a first direction. The first and second domain regulating means form four kinds of domains wherein alignment directions of liquid crystal are nearly 90°different. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
