PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a braking device for an elevator hoisting machine, having a simple structure, preventing hole clogging, and capable of suppressing adherence of wear powder to braking faces, by blowing out compressed air to contact parts of the braking face in a rotating part side and the braking face in a braking piece side to blow the wear powder and sucking and collecting the blown wear powder together with air. SOLUTION: Blowout ports 26 are arranged so as to blow out compressed air from an upper direction of the contact parts of the braking face 6a in the rotating part side and the braking face 11a in the braking piece side toward the contact parts, and suction ports 27 are provided in the vicinity of the lower direction of the contact parts. The blowout ports 26 are connected with a discharge port of an air compressor via a blowout pipe 28 and a blowout valve.
