An image forming apparatus having a transliteration printing function and a control method thereof are provided to directly transmit the print target document stored in an external type storage device and perform a transliteration printing work. An interface member(220) receives the printing document written by the first language. A transliteration member(270) transliterates the printing document into the character of the second language. A printing member(240) prints the transliterated printing document. A syllable mapping table(271) performs a character mapping function and stores the mapped characters. A transliteration change member(272) analyzes the printing document by the syllable unit and transliterates the printing document into the character of the second language with reference to the syllable mapping table.
