A system and method of generating alerts is disclosed. The method includes the steps of: (a) maintaining call data in computer memory, where the call data represents a plurality of telecommunication connections to a destination using a carrier, (b) maintaining a plurality of term values in computer memory, where the term values are based at least partly on the call data, (c) maintaining a plurality of rules in computer memory, where the rules are configured to accept as input one or more term values and to produce as output a rule value, (d) retrieving and applying successive rules from the computer memory to generate a plurality of rule values, and (e) generating an alert for one or more rules for which the corresponding rule value exceeds a threshold value.
