PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely measure the content of sulfur in a gas containing hydrogen chloride and/or chlorine by certainly collecting the sulfur component in the gas containing hydrogen chloride and/or chlorine. SOLUTION: The gas containing hydrogen chloride and/or chlorine is brought into contact with a solid containing a metal component, which is selected from the respective elements of the Groups VIII-X and the compounds in the presence of oxygen to quantify sulfur in the solid. As the solid, one substantially composed only of the above-mentioned metal component may be used, or one constituted by supporting the above-mentioned metal component on a carrier may be used.
