PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector suppressing omission of projected characters. SOLUTION: A nonvolatile memory 1240 in a projector section control circuit 124 is stored with defective pixel information of a liquid crystal panel 122. A projector section control circuit 124 shifts the pixel positions of a group of characters (characters, numbers, symbols, etc.) on the liquid crystal panel 122 during projection so that a projection character has no omission at a defective pixel. The shift range is set to be within 10 rightward and leftward pixels from an initial position. When a coincidence with a character forming pixel position and a white defective pixel position is not solved, even if pixel positions shifts by 10 pixels to the right and the left, respectively, a character formation pixel position on the liquid crystal panel 122, that minimizes the number of matching pixels, is decided as a pixel position at character projection.
