PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing a new high-stable composite powder, in which a functionality-imparting substance developing a gas treating function, for example, is introduced by treating the surface of the inorganic powder, and in which the content of various functionality-imparting substances can be increased. SOLUTION: The composite powder is produced, for example, by allowing a crosslinkable and polymerizable composition containing a polymerizable monomer having an anion exchange group to be absorbed in a raw material powder comprising inorganic particles in such a manner that the absorbed amount of the composition does not exceed the saturation absorption amount of the raw material powder, then polymerizing the absorbed composition, and subjecting the resulting raw material powder to ion exchange by bringing it into contact with a solution containing an anionic atomic group including a metal atom.
