A filter for an optical recoding medium, which does not generate selective reflection wavelength shift nor reproduced image distortion even when an incidence angle is changed, prevents diffused reflection from a reflecting film of an optical recording medium due to information light and reference light, and prevents noise generation, is provided. An optical recording medium, or the like, using such filter and performs high-density recording is also provided. The optical recording medium is characterized in that the medium is successively provided with a first substrate, a recording layer for recording information by using holography, an optical compensating layer, a filter layer and a second substrate, and the filter layer is a cholesteric liquid crystal layer.
