PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image signal output device in which, when images with sub-pictures of the DVD video standard are reproduced for instance, in the case that a color of a subtitle is overlapped with a color of a main image to make it difficult to see the subtitle, a color and the brightness of the subtitles can be automatically adjusted to make it easy to see the subtitle. SOLUTION: An image information detecting means 1 detects image information (information on luminance and a degree of a color) from a main image signal. After a sub-picture decoding means 2 decodes sub-picture data, it automatically changes the luminance of a color and a degree of a color set to the sub-picture based on the image information of a main image, and sets the sub-pictures overlapped with the main image to a color or brightness which is easy to be seen. A synthesizing means 3 synthesizes the main image signal with the sub-pictures of the luminance and the like changed by the sub-picture decoding means 2 for outputting. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
